In 1962 Moneygall won the north intermediate hurling championship, beating Kilruane in the final by 2-6 to 1-8.  The Nenagh Guardian described the match as one of “tense excitement, varying fortunes and honest hurling” with the result in doubt right up to the last puck.  This team’s achievements earned promotion back to the senior ranks and their progress in the championship in subsequent years (reaching the north senior finals of 1967 and 1970) would ultimately lay the foundations for the successes that would follow in the seventies.  The team that won the 1962 north final was: Jimmy Boland; Bobby Gleeson, Paddy Byrne, Matt Hassett; Dan Quinlan, Jerry Gleeson, John Collison; Jim Collison, Seamus Delaney; Philip Ryan, Billy McLeish, Paddy Bergin; Mick Brown, Gerry Maher, Patsy Gleeson. Subs: Billy Jones, Bob Collison, Jim Newe, Pat Kenny, Mick Maher.
