Jubilee Celebration: There was a night of
celebration in Delaney’s Bar in Dunkerrin last Saturday as the Moneygall
hurling team that won the North Intermediate Championship in 1962 were honoured
on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of their victory. It was terrific to have so many of the panel
and their families in attendance, and all were formally welcomed by M.C.
Darragh Hayes when proceedings got underway.
Each panel member was presented with a commemorative plaque, and a
presentation was also made to John Gleeson, who was recently honoured with a
Tipperary Sean Gael award. The panel
then assembled for a photograph with the Murphy Cup, which was presented to
team captain Jimmy Boland in 1962 and was kindly on loan from the Lár na Páirce Museum for the night.
There were also original newspaper reports of the final in circulation which
provoked further chat and old stories being recalled, and the traditional music
and finger food also added to the enjoyment of what was a memorable night. Under 21: Our hurling year came to an end in Templemore last Saturday when Clonakenny/Moneygall were beaten by a strong Thurles Sarsfields team in the mid U21 A hurling semi-final by 4-18 to 0-8. Cathal Kennedy, Liam Carroll, and Brendan Toohey started in defence, Eoin Greene played at midfield, and Alan Maher, Brian Teehan and Ciaran Quinlan lined out in the forward line, with Sean Fogarty coming on during the first half. Juvenile AGM: The juvenile club AGM will be held in the GAA Centre on Monday 17th December. All parents are welcome to attend and we also encourage anybody who would be interested in getting involved with any of the underage teams to come along on the night. Members can now also submit their nominations for all officer roles and selector positions to the juvenile secretary Kevin Maher, Dunkerrin. Christmas Lotto: Our first Christmas draw took place at last week’s lotto night and the prize winners were: Turkey – Cathriona Ryan, Glenbeha; Ham – Kevin Hayes, Moneygall; Whiskey – Whyte Brothers, Barna; Red Wine – Patricia Delaney, Toomevara; White Wine – Kathleen Grace; Sweets – Mary Jones, Ballingrawn; Biscuits – Mrs. Betty Madden, Lisduff. The jackpot stands at €11,150 for this Tuesday’s draw in Ollie’s Bar, where the second Christmas draw will also take place. Tipperary Lotto: Congratulations to Padraig Sheedy, Clashagad, who was the winner of €200 in last Friday’s Tipperary GAA Weekly Lotto Draw. Fitness Classes: The kettle bells exercise class continues in the main hall of the GAA Centre every Tuesday evening at 8pm. The classes are led by instructor Kenny McDonald and are open to all members of the public at a cost of €7 per night. |
