Senior Hurling Challenge: Hurling followers
will get their first chance to see the Tipperary
senior hurlers in action in 2014 this Sunday afternoon in St Flannan's Park,
when our club hosts Tipp's first game of 2014.
Tipp take on Offaly in a challenge match in preparation for the upcoming
Waterford Crystal Cup and National League.
Throw-in time has been fixed for 1pm. Charity Match: St Flannan’s Park was
the venue for our charity fundraiser on St Stephen’s morning, when our hurling
team took on Moneygall FC in a gaelic football challenge match. Conditions were ideal for free-flowing
football and at the end of an enjoyable game the hurlers came out on top by 2-4
to 0-5. Most importantly over €600 was
raised for our chosen charity Fighting Blindness. Thanks to all the players and spectators who
turned out, to our referee Martin Ahern, to Ollie’s Bar who provided soup and
sandwiches after the game, and to everyone who contributed to this worthy cause. |

Weekend of Welcomes Celebrations
Our parish
enjoyed an event-filled few days over the Bank Holiday weekend to celebrate The
Gathering 2013. In our hurling match on
Sunday afternoon to commemorate the 1887 meeting of The Honeymounts and Killeen, our senior team
were beaten by Templederry by 6-16 to 1-11.
Templederry raced into an early lead with 3 goals in the opening stages
and they had built up an unassailable lead by half time. Two Honeymount natives Michael and Damien
Hogan played on the Moneygall team, with Michael captaining the team on the
day.
Moneygall Team v Templederry: Padhraic Greene; Eoin Troy, Mike Ryan, Michael Hogan (captain); Michael Cahill, Phil Fanning, Pajo Troy; Martin Deane, Eoin Greene; Willie Greene, Conor Ryan, Brian Teehan; Ger Kirwan, Ciaran Quinlan, Sean Fogarty. Subs: Stephen Maher, Liam Carroll, Damien Hogan, Anthony Devereux, Dwayne Collison, Tom Toohey. Our Under 10 and Under 8 hurlers provided the half-time entertainment with an exhibition match. Unfortunately the day’s stormy conditions seemed to be at their worst during this game, but there was still plenty of skill and impressive score-taking on show from our young players to entertain the attendance. After the match a pig-on-a-spit reception was served in the clubhouse for players and supporters, where a display on the history of the GAA Club was also exhibited. Later on Sunday night the action moved to Dunkerrin Community Centre for our Social Dance. This was another enjoyable occasion of an eventful weekend. Music was provided by Midnight Dynamo and tea, sandwiches, cakes and desserts were served. Many thanks to the sponsors of our raffle prizes for their generosity – Dudley Maher who provided a lamb, Bernie’s Supervalu for their food hamper, and Parker’s Restaurants who sponsored a €60 meal voucher. Thanks to all our volunteers and to everyone who donated their time or their help in any way during the preparation for and running of our events over the weekend. Thanks also to the Templederry club for travelling to take part in our match and to all our locals and visitors who attended and supported our events. |
